This morning started with Will sleeping late, dishes piled in the sink because Will hadn't emptied the dishwasher like he was supposed to, Andrew happily starting even more mess by whipping up one of his pancake creations. After a typical summer of extra mess around the house and lax attitude about chores, I had had enough. So I sent Andrew to wake up his brother and I launched into what seems like my annual end-of-summer lecture - er uh, parental guidance: they need to be responsible for their chores, keep their stuff picked up, etc. Luckily for all three of us, since it is an annual event, we all knew the routine so it didn't have to last very long. Apparently still too long for Andrew though. When I was about done, he smiled sweetly, cocked his head, and said, "Can I get back to my pancakes now, before dust becomes one of the main ingredients?" While I think I was just dissed, I do appreciate clever humor, so had a good chuckle and sent the boys on their way. Lets see if any chores get done, or whether the chuckle is the only benefit of the lecture.
