Happy 4th from the North!

I love the new photo, Patti - thanks! And your story is great, Janice. The back row middle seat was the lesser of 2 evils!

I just got home from an overnight at Harstine Island. Their 4th of July celebration is lots of fun. Andrew entered the apple pie baking contest. He didn't win, but his pie was excellent. Jaime helped by monitoring the oven. Our stove at Harstine is 40 years old and very temperamental. J monitored the temp in the oven with an oven thermometer and had to keep adjusting it to bake the pie at a consistent temperature. She did a fine job, but that experience led to a discussion of replacing the stove, so why not the 40-year-old fridge as well -- oh maybe we should just remodel the entire kitchen next summer . . . Sound familiar, fellow homeowners?

Will and I left at 1 pm to get him to his 6-day Washington Trails Association camp/work party at the Columbia River. Gorgeous location, and a group of teenagers get to work on trail building/maintenance projects several hours a day, with several hours of fun and relaxing. He is at Beacon Rock State Park for the week. Photo above is Beacon Rock itself, the core of an old volcano. Sweet!

I'm at home now b/c after my 7 hours of driving today, I get to learn how to drive our new bookmobile tomorrow. It's a Sprinter van, not too big, until you try to back it in to its parking spot. Should be fun.

Who will be at the Lake next weekend? I hope I get to see many of you there!
